While you're waiting for the Disney release, watch the English-subtitled version of "Hua Mu Lan" (1939), a Chinese film made during World War II that was so controversial that a mob burned it in the streets of Chungking in 1940. Watch Mulan shoot a male hunter in the butt and call him a "bunny" in the opening scene.   2. I love how this clip is designed – the “good woman” part (outdated stereotypes of a woman’s role), versus her breaking free of those expectations and kicking ass in the process. It’s who Mulan is meant to be. Or am I just thinking too hard? 🤔
